No time for Prime Time

Advertiser had been running around and TV channels had been playing around Prime TIme for advertisemnt. The launch of IPTV and Digital Video Recording (DVR) enables set top boxes is going to kill the concept of PRIME TIME.

Big TV will be launching STB in next couple of month which will have feature of recording programme being telecasted. A viewer who is likely to miss this programme can set timer for recording this programme. Hence he will not have to run for the programme at fixed time, this icludes prime time as well. He can be forced to see only those ads which are placed in the programme breaks but he will have liberty to skip the ads between the programme.

Further with IPTV coming up in the market, a viewer will have to just click on the programme any time to watch it . IPTV scene is not clear but stiff competitin coming up among IPTV and DTH players, IPTV providers may give liberty to viewer of watching programme without ads. This can be done to reduce downloading time of programme from IPTV portals.

Thus the calculations running around prime time will be diminish soon and media planners will need to learn new strategies to enhance viewership of the adertisements.

This is also good news for viewers as the programmes with good content will be have higher viewership and rubbish content will not have scope. At this moment a viewer does not has liberty to fast forward the rubbish content but with new technology coming up, he will have liberty to send the nonsense portion of programme in trash.

AHA 'trash' folder can also gain rating value in feature. The one trashed maximum number of time can be trashed from the industry.

Now script writers need to work hard to bring creativity in their writing as the cut copy paste era will find hard to sustain in coming days.
